September is fast approaching which means the Moon Festival celebration is near.
The Moon Festival falls on the 15th day of the 8th month in the Chinese Lunar Calendar. As of that time of the year, this is when the moon is the roundest and brightest. This year the Moon Festival falls on the 27th September 2015.
But what is the Moon Festival?
It is a ceremony celebrated in China & Vietnam. It is an inherited custom of sacrificial ceremonies to the moon. The ancient Chinese saw a very close relationship between the movement of the moon, the changes in seasons and agricultural production. The Moon Festival was forged as a celebration to express thanks to the moon and the harvest. Families offered sacrifice to the moonand would gather and make offerings of spherical fruits, osmanthus-flavored wine and mooncakes to the heavens to express their gratitude to the harvest. All this whilst enjoying a reunion with relatives who lived far away.
The tradition carries on to this day so why not celebrate with us at the Riverbank Chinese Buffet?
